Heathcote has the ability to produce velvety rich wines combined with elegance, which makes it one of Australia's most exciting regions for Shiraz. We are inspired by this wine as it shows another dimension of what can be achieved with Shiraz in Australia. This wine is a beautiful dark purple color with amazing density. A gentle bouquet showing hints of coal, chocolate and dark cherry flavors. The palate starts out quite lean and focused - then driving through the core is a mass of spicy black fruits and almost delicate tannins, which provide the key to this wine. A long and multi dimensional finish. The 2005 Max's Garden will cellar easily for 8+ years but it is very approachable on release.

Wine SpectatorBeautifully balanced and harmonious, this is a distinctive wine that offers pure flavors of mineral-accented plum and blackberry. Hints at violet and earth as the finish sails on and on. The tannins are present, but smoothly integrated. Drink now through 2015.

Wine AdvocateThe 2005 Shiraz "Max's Garden" was sourced from Heathcote. It was aged in French and American oak with 15% new French. It delivers a complex aromatic array of cedar, smoked meat, violets, pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry. This leads to a medium-bodied Shiraz which is just a bit lean on the palate. Aside from that, it has solid flavors and a moderately long finish. Drink it over the next 8-10 years.
