Planted on an oak-laden hillside between the AVAs of Oak Knoll and Coombsville, our Out of Sight Vineyard off the Silverado Trail is easily missed, hence its name. When we purchased the property in the late 1980s, the site's gravelly loam soils and northwest exposure signaled its great potential, but the tangled head-pruned vines also suggested years of neglect. We spent the next several years re-developing the property and retraining the vines, and today, our organically farmed Out of Sight vineyard is one of our most treasured fruit sources.

Wine AdvocateThe 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Out of Sight Vineyard, from an estate vineyard in the very southern part of Napa, not far from the Silverado Country Club, has a deep ruby/purple color, beautiful texture, more opulence and flesh than any of the other Cabernets in the portfolio, and a long, heady finish. This wine displays terrific fruit, beautiful, pure cassis intermixed with some licorice and cedar. Drink it over the next 15+ years.

Wine SpectatorTight, with an earthy streak running through the spicy currant, cedar and dried berry flavors. Balanced, with mild, integrated tannins. Drink now through 2012. 553 cases made.

Wine EnthusiastWith powerful cassis flavors that approach raisins and red licorice candy, this Cab, which hails from a vineyard off the Silverado Trail, shows the extraordinary heat of the vintage. It's a good, even a delicious wine, but not an ager, one to enjoy now while your '02s and '03s are in the cellar.
