The fabulous 2013 vintage delivers a dark ruby red wine with wide open aromatics of ripe black & red fruits layered with toasty French oak. A smorgasbord of aromas so pure and layered leads you to a big silky mouthful of deliciousness on the palate. Fruit is berry and plumlike, oaky notes are moderate with caramel and vanilla hints, tannins are refined, acidity is balanced, flavors persist a long time. Everything you could want in a red blend. Yummy stuff indeed.

Wine AdvocateOne of my favorite wines from Barrett, made from seven varieties, is the 2013 Proprietary Red Pirate TreasuRed. The wine, which comes in a squat bottle that looks like something from "Pirates of the Caribbean," is dominated by its meatiness, Mediterranean spice and Provençal personality. Even though is has some Syrah and Grenache, it also has Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. It is dense ruby/purple, full-bodied, juicy, succulent and an ideal bistro wine to drink with full-flavored food. It is a savory wine and fun.
