Stonestreet Legacy 1999
|Region||California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley|
Like the Christopher's Cab, this wine is firmly structured; it also has higher-toned aromatics consisting of red cherries and mint. Then the flavors come in waves of black cherry, plum and cassis, finishing long and chocolaty. Drink 2005-2015.
The 1999 Legacy is Stonestreet's top proprietary wine (a blend of 70.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28.1% Merlot, and 1.6% Cabernet Franc). It possesses a Bordeaux-like profile (although it is fuller-bodied than most Bordeaux) with notes of cocoa, chocolate, black cherries, cassis, and liquid minerals. The wine is smoky, rich, and sweet on the attack, with firm tannin in the finish. This still young, unevolved red requires 3-4 more years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018.
Excellent structure. Taut plum, cedar and black cherry and firm, chewy tannins are all tightly wound, with a dry cedar and leather aftertaste. Needs time and decanting. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2004 through 2012. 1,500 cases made.
