The 1997 vintage represents a very special year for Liparita Cellars. After 10 years on Howell Mountain, we have begun producing wines from other noteworthy sites in the Napa Valley. The 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon represents the first Cabernet produced from this particular combination of fruit sources and it is one of our best vintages since we began making Cabernet in 1990. Made with grapes from some of the Napa Valley's most experienced growers, this wine exemplifies California winemaking at its very best. With fruit from Spring Mountain on the western hills, Howell Mountain on the eastern side of the valley and premium upper valley vineyards, our winemaker Gove Celio has handcrafted a complex and bold style wine.
Floral notes compliment the dark fruit aromas of plum and cassis. Black cherry, chocolate and licorice mingle together with smoky, earth tones and firm tannins. This bold wine will reward the palate when paired with hearty fare and its complex structure lends itself to cellar aging of at least 5-10 years.
Herbs and toast play off the standard fare of blackberries and plums, creating a good whole. It's full, deep, and long-a thoroughbred. Another of those wines that everyone with a taste for California Cabernet should like. Charming and high in quality, if not necessarily ultracomplex.
Chewy, with chunky flavors of blackberries, dark chocolate and toasty oak. Concentrated, with brawny, broad-shouldered tannins that need a few years to unwind. Best from 2003 through 2008. 3,650 cases made.
