Gaja Darmagi 1998
We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.
Gaja's Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, planted in 1978, is the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in Piedmont since phylloxera invasion destroyed all of the old vines in the second half of the 19th century. Darmagi is Piedmontese for "what a pity," a phrase Angelo Gaja's father, Giovanni, uttered every time he passed the vineyard as it was being converted from Nebbiolo to Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense dark red, almost black. Loaded with opulent layers of concentrated fruit. Excellent fruit with strong cassis flavors and hints of roasted coffee and vanilla; enormous extract and an imposing structure with very fine tannins and great elegance. Grape Variety Used: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc
