Il Borro Toscana Rosso 2002
Wine SpectatorGrapey and ripe with toasted oak, coffee and berry character. Full-bodied, velvety tannins and a long finish. Needs to come together still. Extremely well done for a difficult year. Big decrease in price too. Best after 2006. 3,300 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2002 Il Borro offers another set of surprises that defies the very low expectations of this difficult vintage (that was soggy and cold throughout the growing season). This wine offers a thinner and more compact mouthfeel, but it also shows understated elegance and grace. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot are planted in well-draining soils, and fresh breezes helped to soften some effects of the damp conditions. Indeed, the wine shows much better than I anticipated.
