Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove 2000
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri Sassicaia|
Wine EnthusiastThe second wine of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is smoky, leathery and packed full of plum and leather. The jammy palate is tasty and spicy, with ample red plum and berry flavors. The finish is rich enough to make you smile, yet the winery has done right by keeping this wine a cut below its stellar premium cuvée.
Wine SpectatorRich and aromatic, with pruny ripe fruit and fresh herb, spice and mineral notes. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm, fine tannins and a medium to long finish. Very extracted, but should come around in time. Second wine of Ornellaia. Best after 2004.
Wine AdvocateSweet black cherry and berry fruit, spicy oak, earth, and licorice dominate the 2000 Le Serre Nuove's moderately intense aromatics. Medium-bodied, clean, and straightforward, with light tannin in the finish, it should be consumed over the next 4-5 years.
