Fattoria Petrolo Toscana Torrione 2003
Really pretty aromas of crushed berries, spices and hints of vanilla. Medium- to full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a clean, fresh finish. Elegant and refined. Always outstanding. Sangiovese. Best after 2007.
Made in a super-ripe style that expresses the vintage, Petrolo's 2003 Torrione (100% Sangiovese) is richer and weightier on the palate than the 2004. Ample as well as expansive, it offers generous dark ripe fruit and toasted oak flavors while maintaining excellent freshness for the vintage. It may not be especially complex, but it is quite enjoyable nonetheless. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2015.
Nice and smoky, with a solid, healthy nose that covers the bases. Good and snappy on the tongue, where zest and sweetness convene and deliver cherry, vanilla and chocolate flavors. Medium in terms of intensity and depth. Best now-2008.
