The vineyard got a late start due to a cold and wet spring, resulting in the one of the smallest crops ever for Howell Mountain. Perfect summer and fall conditions followed, however, allowing us to pick the grapes at peak maturity, giving us a wine with forward fruit flavors. Carefully chosen fermentation techniques and barrel aging in 50% new French oak significantly softened the tannins common in Howell Mountain wines. Additional bottle aging of 14 months prior to release finished off the winemaking process by harmonizing the aromas, flavors and body into a compleAromas of black cherry and finen wood on the nose. Excellent youthful wine at this stage. Aromas of black cherry and finen wood on the nose. Excellent youthful wine at this stage. Right from the start this wine entices us with its intense garnet color and dense berry fruit. Plum, chocolate, tobacco and spice weave a rich tapestry of smoky aromas and complex flavors. With its forward, approachable flavors, well-balanced tannins and long, flavorful finish this wine will make a welcome addition to your table now or to your cellar for future enjoyment. Whether paired with spare ribs at a summer picnic or with filet of beef at a holiday celebration, this Cabernet Sauvignon has the style and grace to stand next to many types of fare.
