Along with 1945 and 1977, this Vintage is a true classic amongst great wines. Power, dimension and character, are all hallmarks of this most memorable Vintage. The colour of this wine is golden red even after some 40 years. On the nose, there are soft flowery aromas. On the taste, there is the typical Warre elegance. Very soft tannins are well integrated with the fruit. The many years of bottle ageing has softened this wine into perfect balance and harmony. Rich, elegant and very long on the finish.

Wine SpectatorExtremely impressive, with beautifully balanced, harmonious sweet fruit on the palate. Medium ruby-red, ripe cherry and cassis aromas, medium-bodied, with rich, velvety fruit flavors, full, soft tannins and a powerful finish.

Wine AdvocateThis house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop, and while they never quite have the voluptuous richness of a Dow, Graham, or Fonseca, they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1963 is very, very good and now fully mature.

Robert Parker, January 1989
