Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin Grande Cuvée 1994

SKU 2328

In 1989, 1990, 1994 and 1995, conditions were so favourable that the Perrin family decided to make a special cuvée in honour of their father. The Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin from those years was made mostly from very old Mourvedre vines yielding tiny quantities of intensely ripe, concentrated fruit. Those fortunate enough to have tasted it never forget it. Truly, a 'grand vin'. Saturated black-ruby color. More, darker aromas of black cherry, cassis, spice, leather and game, has an almost medicinal aspect. Very sweet entry, then backward and closed, almost to rough on the palate today. Extremely concentrated at the finish. A wine to be kept for your retirement.

Wine AdvocateThe 1994 is the odd man out in this mini-vertical, revealing an animal-styled personality with notes of beef blood, animal fur, wet dog, mushrooms, tree bark, licorice, spice, black currants, and cherries. Medium to full-bodied and rich, but slightly awkward compared to its siblings, it should be drinkable between 2006-2020. Hindsight suggests this might not have been a vintage in which to produce a Jacques Perrin.
