The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch is powerful and explosive in the glass, with serious tannins that give the wine its dark, brooding personality. A rush of black cherry, gravel, smoke, game and spice flows through the mid palate and onto the imposing, structured finish. There is a lot to like, but readers will have to be patient, as the tannins are imposing. The State Ranch is one of the more brooding wines in this range today.

Cellar Selection. A 100% varietal wine from the cooler end of the valley, this powerful wine offers tight barrel integration and grippy tannins. Soft, rounded layers of red cherry and cassis add to a lushness of fruit seasoned by savory clove. Enjoy 2025-2035.

Black cherries, currants, incense, tobacco leaf, and graphite all emerge from the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch, which comes from a site in Yountville and was raised in 51% new French oak. This terrific Cabernet is medium to full-bodied, has beautiful purity, and grows on you with time in the glass. It promises to drink well for 15-20 years.

Sporting a deep garnet-purple color and nose of cedar, baked blackberries and black cherry preserves with hints of menthol and violets, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon State Ranch is medium-bodied, elegant and fine, with just enough fruit, soft tannins and lovely freshness.

Aromas of mocha, dried herb and cedary oak hold the upper hand on a tight core of chewy dark berry flavors. Firms and turns tannic on the finish, so this is best to cellar. Best from 2020 through 2030. 1,702 cases made.
