Laurel Glen Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is made entirely from estate-grown grapes and produced from vines planted between 1968 and 2004. It is intensely dark, with ripe and integrated tannins for long term ageing potential. While the wine is redolent of cassis and berry flavors, it has a haunting spiciness, almost a floral note. The wine is at once large-scaled and delicate. The longevity of Laurel Glen Vineyard Cabernet was demonstrated at a tasting in February 2011 of all vintages between 1981 and 2007. Three vintages from the 1980's were voted among the top ten by the 7 prominent sommeliers and 3 experienced wine writers present. Master Sommelier Larry Stone wrote, "from the very beginning to the present day, all the wines show complexity, longevity and classical proportions."

This was the final vintage Patrick Campbell fully presided over before selling the winery. It's a dense and compact wine, showing mountain tannins framing black currant, cassis, mineral, violet and new oak flavors. Despite the opulence, the finish is dry. Made from 100% Cabernet, the wine needs time in the cellar. Try it after 2018, and it should be rolling along in the mid-2020s.

The saturated ruby/purple-colored 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (100% Cabernet Sauvignon; just under 1,000 cases produced) was aged 30 months in French oak (50% new). It reveals an attractive, tightly knit nose of forest floor, blackberries and black currants, a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel, and plenty of structure, tannin, depth and richness. Clearly built for long-term cellaring, this textbook mountain Cabernet Sauvignon should be consumed between 2017 and 2030. It is the finest Laurel Glen Cabernet Sauvignon I have tasted in over a decade.

A rustic style, tightly wound and well-focused, requiring patience, with dense, structured dill, dark berry, dried herb and tobacco notes. The flavors push through the grip of tannins. Best from 2015 through 2026. 888 cases made.
