Classic Sangiovese aromas of violet, wild berry, baking spice and a whiff of new leather meld together on this. The structured full-bodied palate delivers black cherry, crushed raspberry, clove and star anise set against firm acidity and a backbone of tightly wound tannins that grip the finish. Carpineto's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is bright and fruit-forward. The aromas are lively and buoyant with ripe cherry and cassis at the front. The bouquet is very attractive indeed, but this mid-weight wine is short and less impactful in terms of mouthfeel. Still, this is an accessible Brunello to pair with roast ham or pork. Some 18,000 bottles were made.
