White gold with green hue. Aromas are at once, classically-defined Yattarna - restrained, not trying too hard! Lemony citrus, lemon curd and spring flowers - jasmine and frangipani await patiently, ready to unfurl more naturally with time in bottle, or perhaps to be coaxed with a decant. Further scrutiny reveals complexing aromas of nougat, cashew nut and cinnamon-stick spice - no doubt arising from yeast lees battonage in tandem with nine months in new and used French oak barriques. Yellow peach, fig and creamy custard apple flavors intricately woven in and around a textural palate, one which displays a wonderful purity of flavor and natural acid linearity akin to wet river stone. Oak in unison, profound length. Pairs well with Kangaroo Island Marron, samphire, young shoots, peas and organic honey.

Supple, a bit broader and more generous, with more lime and pear than pineapple this time, finishing with delicacy and refinement. Has depth and intensity without weight. Fruit from Tasmania and Adelaide Hills.-Non-blind Yattarna vertical (November 2011). Best after 2015. 52 cases imported.

The 2008 Yattarna Chardonnay is comprised of 87% Tasmanian fruit with the remainder coming from South Australia and Victoria. It presents quite an earthy / chalky nose with restrained hints of lemon peel, lime leaf, white peaches and orange blossoms. Medium bodied, tightly wound and with a very good concentration of nervy flavors, it has crisp acidity and a nice suggestion of silkiness to the texture, finishing long and citrusy. Approachable now, it should cellar to 2018+.

Sourced from Tasmania this vintage, Penfolds flagship Chardonnay continues to strive for tightness, elegance and finesse. It's super crisp, with lemony notes of underripe pineapple and white peach leaving a tart, mouth-puckering finish behind. Try giving it a few years in the cellar and seeing if that loosens it up at all.
