This complex Cabernet Sauvignon wine reveals sultry aromas of muddled red fruits, raspberry, and dried strawberry with hints of light baking spices. Swirling brings up notes of crème brûlée with black tea, mocha, and cocoa powder. The palate is round and polished, with black currants and plum puree accented by vanilla bean and balanced by fine tannins. Hints of dark chocolate and pressed berries linger on the finish.

Full bright ruby. Classic Cabernet aromas of blackcurrant, menthol, graphite minerality, bitter chocolate, menthol and peppery herbs. Juicy, suave and fine-grained on entry, then more pliant and sweet in the middle than the nose suggests. Dark berry, dark chocolate and pepper flavors are lifted by floral and mineral notes. Not at all heavy-handed, this smooth, broad, rather generous but not overly sweet Cabernet finishes with harmonious dusty tannins and excellent perfumed length. This very nicely balanced wine is still quite youthful even if its texture and sweetness give it early appeal. My favorite wine to date from Mullan Road. (aged for 20 months in 33% new French and 6% new American oak; due to the fruit's high level of extractible tannins, this wine was gently extracted during vinification and then received two extra rackings and two extra months in barrel)

Blended with 13% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with dark blackberry fruit, rich dark cherry tones and some soft baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, this is a straightforward and approachable wine in its youth, with energetic tannins that linger on the finish. Over 45,000 bottles were made.

Plums, blackcurrants, earthy tobacco, truffle, and cedary spice notes all emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, and balanced on the palate. It's going to drink nicely for at least 10-12 years. The blend is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest a mix of varieties, aged 22 months in 41% new French oak.
