Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 5LThe intense deep crimson color in the glass pulls you in, while the huge powerful nose captivates; layer on layer of spice, cedar, earth, and tobacco - all over a rich base of ripe black cherry, blackcurrants, cassis, and blueberry jam. The hook is set with the first whiff. Rich, round, juicy and mouth-coating, the palate delivers black cherry and black currant before moving on to brighter red fruits. More subtle tones of butterscotch, anise, and sweet oak complement the fruit beautifully. The huge classic structure of fine grain tannin and firm acidity persist all the way through to the clean crisp spicy finish.
Girard Artistry 2012 1.5LThe 2012 Artistry showcases essence of vanilla bean, perfumed herbs, raspberry and blackberry traits with a touch of toasted nuts. Chateau Lynch-Bages Pauillac 2009Very powerful and well-balanced. The colour is deep and the nose reflects the sunny growing season with remarkable ripeness and overtones of blackcurrant and black fruit. The wine starts out unctuous and straightforward on the palate with impressively concentrated, elegant tannin accompanied by plenty of body. 2009 Lynch-Bages has a rich and opulent flavour enhanced by fresh acidity that contributes to perfect balance and an incredibly long aftertaste.
Bond Pluribus 2007Pluribus, which debuted in the 2003 vintage, is defined as a bold, rich and concentrated wine; elements of dark plum, roasted coffee, and scents of cedar are inherent throughout the vintages.
Château-Haut-Brion Pessac Léognan 2010This wine is a superb ruby-red color with purplish highlights. The initially closed-in bouquet opens up nicely on aeration. The wonderfully subtle aromas follow through in quick succession, starting with oaky overtones, followed by red-berry fruit, leading into terroir character: cocoa powder, roasting coffee, and Havana cigars. The initial softness on the palate gradually evolves to reveal the tannic backbone. Despite their dense structure, the tannins are amazingly silky. The overall freshness carries the flavors through into an aftertaste that goes on and on. This wine has all the depth and smoothness of the 1989, the density of the 2000, the freshness of the 2005 and the richness of the 2009. the 2010 Chateau Haut Brion is so ideally well-balanced, it verges on perfection.
Chateau-Petrus Pomerol 2009Bordeaux's most intensely concentrated, richly flavored and unique red wine. An incredible power, depth and richness yet a remarkable balance with penetrating aromas of ripe mulberry, black currant and fruit and spicy vanilla oak, setting it apart from all Bordeaux's finest wines. An excellent complement of beef, lamb, veal and game.
Penfolds Grange 2008COLOR: Impenetrable dark core. NOSE: Somewhat intimidating? Yes. Brazen? Never. An immediate and powerful lift of cola/soy/hoisin/red licorice, propelled by tea-smoke and ferric influences. Less obvious nut-husk/tan-bark notes align with lush aromas of ripe (jamon-wrapped) figs and a panaforte plushness. With air, blueberry fruits and mocha arise, the oak (100% new!) remaining concealed-too much aromatic background chatter to register! PALATE: A muscular push/wave/affront across the entire palate-from start to finish. Never oppressive nor ungainly, yet captivatingly forceful. i.e. a vinous lava flow of dark licorice and malt-'molten', with a self-saucing chocolate pudding richness and blackberry, elderberry fruits. Pronounced tannins are unleashed, and the Clare component makes its (9%) presence felt, adding to both flavour pool and extract. Power and density naturally respectful of balance and structure. Penfolds Grange displays fully ripe, intensely flavoured and textured Shiraz grapes. The result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world's great wines. The Grange style is the original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy.
Chateau Trotanoy Pomerol 2010
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013The 2013 CASK 23 combines the signature perfume notes of FAY vineyard with the structure and minerality of S.L.V. Aromas of black cherry, cola, currant and ripe figs begin the nose of this rich and opulent Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is full of black fruit (black plum and black cherry) and blueberry flavors that lead to an intense, lingering finish with a touch of cocoa. Food pairings: Grilled New York steak, prime rib with jus, or black pepper-crusted Ahi tuna steaks.
Bond Quella 2007Quella displays an almost ethereal quality of blue fruits, graphite, and a vibrant, subtle finish. Making its debut with the 2006 vintage, the name is derived from the German word for a pristine source or an artesian aquifer. This property is steeply sloped facing southwest. The site is an ancient riverbed composed of cobble and rocks interwoven with pockets of tufa (volcanic ash) that were uplifted during the last volcanic activity in the area.
Domaine La Barroche Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Pure 2007This cuvée reflects a specific terroir and grape variety, as well as a hundred years of ups and downs - unstinting efforts, though crises, wars, etc... as well as years of joy and plenty. The century-old Grenache vines are deeply rooted in this mythical plot like no other, with sandy and red Comtat sandstone soil. Not only rare and unique, the resulting wine is indescribably... pure, as well as ethereal, delicate, elegant, fresh, natural, floral, silky, unctuous and absolute.
