The Viader Syrah is a clonal blend of Australian Shiraz (Barossa) and Rhone Valley (Hermitage). It captures the spice and fruit concentration typically found in the Australian Shiraz, while maintaining the sleek and fragrant nuances more typical of the Rhône Valley Syrahs.

A subtle, somewhat subdued effort, with lots of rich creamy mocha, wild berry and espresso bean flavors that pick up a touch of earth and sage and finish with a long, intense and concentrated aftertaste. Drink now through 2010. 1,052 cases made.

A decent wine, but a disappointing effort from such a well-respected winery. Coffee and cherry aromas are joined by a hint of green bean, while the mouthfeel is supple but not particularly dense or rich. These are young vines, so perhaps the wine will gain strength in subsequent vintages.
