Our first vintage of Generations in 1991 was a blend crafted by Marc Mondavi and was suspect by Peter Mondavi Sr. who was partial to single varietal wines. Marc demonstrated to his father that a wine of this nature could hold its own against the growing popularity of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. This 2012 artful blend is composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Spice, cocoa and mineral aromas provide an entry to the expansive palate of blackberry, black and red currant with firm tannins and a soft, velvety finish.

The 2012 Proprietary Red Blend Family Reserve Generations honors four generations of Mondavis who have been the backbone of the Charles Krug Winery. Composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, this beauty reveals lots of blueberry, mulberry and blue fruits, a dense ruby/purple color, sweet tannins, and a medium to full-bodied, elegant yet substantial style. With no hard edges, this seamless stunner is a top example of not only 2012, but of Charles Krug's resurgence in the marketplace as a serious player. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot is quite sizable on the palate. It explores where these varieties can go in terms of smokiness and deeper, more savory tastes of tobacco and clove.
