Domaine de Courcel Pommard Grand Clos des Epenots 2011
|France, Burgundy, Cote de Beaune
|Domaine de Courcel
Rich and dense, with pure black cherry and spice flavors. A bit rigid now, with plenty of buried fruit. Finishes with edgy tannins and good length. Best from 2016 through 2026. 250 cases imported.
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Epenots '11 has a nicely controlled bouquet with bright, vivacious brambly red fruit, quite stemmy with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with good weight, although the wood tannins are a little obtrusive at the moment. This will need a couple more years to coalesce and I do hope that the oak is fully assimilated over the next few months. Fingers crossed.
