Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Altero 2010
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino|
While we first produced this wine in 1983, it has actually only been a Brunello since 1995 due to a change in the aging in oak regulations for the production of Brunello which were reduced to 2 years.This modern expression of Brunello gained fame when President Obama gifted a bottle to speak Boehner and it made the CNN news!
Bright, with cherry and raspberry flavors, edged by spice and a hint of wild herbs. Fresh and linear in profile, but lacks some complexity. Fine length. Best from 2017 through 2028. 2,500 cases made.
Oak, espresso and toast aromas jump out of the glass. The tightly wound palate delivers plum cake, roasted coffee bean, oak extract, licorice, a confectionary note and licorice but not much fruit richness. Raspy wood tannins provide the framework.
