A deep ruby robe with orangey hints showing the start of a colour change in the bottles. On the nose, the hints of toasted vanilla and fruit are topped by touches of light tobacco. On the palate, the attack is full and mild. The very full middle reveals a delicate tannic structure. Good length on the finish.

A pleasant, dark ruby-colored, elegant Pauillac, the 1998 displays hollowness on the mid-palate along with notes of red and black currants, tobacco, dried herbs, and earth. Although solidly-made, there is not much depth. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012.
